In January 2019, the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (MCWD) was awarded a $112,000 grant from the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR) to fund the Long Lake Creek Subwatershed Assessment. This grant supported data collection and analysis regarding invasive common carp and stormwater runoff affecting five impaired lakes in Long Lake, Orono, and Medina.

LONG LAKE — Members of the Long Lake Waters Association thought there were a lot of common carp in Long Lake, but now they have scientific evidence proving there are more of the invasive fish than there should be. And it’s affecting water quality in the lake.

In recognition for LLWA's committment to the local communities future, and their ongoing advocacy for the environment, the Long Lake City Council issued a certificate of Appreciation to Long Lake Waters Association at the October 16, 2018 City Council Meeting.

LONG LAKE -- On Wednesday, May 23, the Long Lake Waters Association (LLWA) and the cities of Long Lake and Medina, working with WSB Associates, implanted radio transmitters in carp fish in Long Lake as the kickoff for a carp management project that the LLWA has spearheaded. The radio transmitters will provide data to help track the invasive fish within the 7,619-acre watershed over the next year.
